Search Techniques

quotes: Use quotes to search for an exact word or set of words in aspecific order.
Tip: Only use this if you're looking for a very precise word or phrase.
e.g.; "Composing with Courage" or "Capacity Building"

plus (+): Use to combine results. Place the (+) between words to be combined.
Tip: To restrict the search to a specific domain place the (+) between the domain name and the word(s).
e.g.; AER + Questioning versus Math + Questioning versus Literacy + Questioning

minus (-): Use to eliminate irrelevant results. Place the (-) before the word you wish to eliminate. There must not be a space between the minus sign and the word you want to eliminate.
      e.g.; Scope and Sequence -Math

filetype: return files of the extension you specify.
e.g.; filetype:pdf or filetype:.pdf - other types: .flv, .doc, .ppt, .mp4, .mov, .xls

tilde sign(~): Add a tilde sign (~) in front of a word to search for that word as well its synonyms.
e.g.; ~food facts includes results for "nutrition facts"

OR (capitalized): To search for pages that may have just one of several words, include OR (capitalized) between the words.
      e.g.; TIPS OR WINS
Tip: Enclose phrases in quotes to search for either one of several phrases.
e.g.; "teaching examples" OR "learning examples"
